The First Wave

Got my seeds in the mail earlier this week (shout out to Jon for buying them for me for Valentine's Day:) and the planting has begun! This first planting session is Porphyrocoma Brazilian Fireworks Maracas. I bought all my seeds from parkseeds.com and so far so good. Got here within a week and I like their packaging.

So I decided to go green this year, aka using tin cans my husband was saving so he could recycle them sometime. Poked a bunch of holes in the bottoms, filled them with seed starting soil, put in my little babies, and watered them. I at first tried to water from the bottom up, but I think my holes were too small cuz not much water was getting absorbed. Since I had already put them on top of the fridge (apparently the warmth helps your seeds germinate faster), I yelled for my husband to stop playing Donkey Kong and help me get the cans with soil and seed and the tray of water off. We only spilled some of the water. So, hopefully these seeds will germinate in 4-5 days (random website please don't be getting my hopes up to soon), and I'll have my first seedlings of the season.

This Is It

Ever since I can remember, I've always wanted to grow a garden. From scratch/seed. None of this buying plants already grown. Too easy (and expensive). Many times I've tried, frequently to end in tragedy. I left the seedlings out in the sun with the plastic cover on and they all wilted (this was my first attempt, and I was terribly devastated), I forgot to water them and they all died (whoops!), joined a community garden but got hit by a car on my bike and was out of comission for a while (bike too, so no transportation), you get the picture. This time, tho, I'm going to do it. I've got it all planned out; done my research about which plants will do best on my little patio, sketched out the lay of the land, I got this. I have a good feeling about this year, because I think I'm on my way towards one of my life goals: be an awesome gardener.
